History. . . |

| Lumenelle, Inc.
was founded in May of 2002 by Peter Janko
for the purpose of designing and manufacturing contemporary lamps and lighting
fixtures. Our name combines the word "lumen", a unit of light, and "elle",
from the word origin meaning "The light of the sun." |
| After designing
telecommunications products more than 20 years, Peter decided to pursue
his love of lighting. |
| Over the years,
Peter made several successful career changes, rehabilitated two houses
(one in Chicago built in 1894), and designed and built his current home.
That brought Peter a large variety of experience and skills. And while
all of those gave Peter ample opportunities to be creative and resourceful,
they didn't satisfy his desire to also be artistic. |
| During his trips
to Europe, Peter fell in love with European lighting. He would bring back
lamps and fixtures for himself and friends and convert them to for use
in the United States. Often, these conversions required designing and making
custom components. |
| Peter spent most
of his carreer designing "Aftermarket Products" at Motorola. Designing
aftermarket products developed a keen talent and understanding of "integration"
or put another way, " the need for all components in a system to play
together." |
| Peter also designed
Test Equipment for Motorola commercial 2-way radios. To successfully design
test equipment for a product designed by others requires the ability to
quickly and entirely understand how that product works - it's strengths
- its flaws. Many times, this provided the "hindsight" that led to design
changes to the product prior production or a later product improvement. |
| Peter asked longtime
associate, Ken Larson , if he would like
to design lighting products. They had co-devoped many products at Motorola.
Ken, as a member of Motorola's Industrial Design Department was responsible
for the appearance of numerous Motorola communications products as well
as
the first ever portable cellular telephone.
An ergonomics expert, Ken’s talents not only make Lumenelle products "attractive"
but user friendly and sensibly designed. |
| Lumenelle found
its initial success by being the "supplier of last resort." That
resulted in Lumenelle repeatedly delivering solutions that the client could
not find elsewhere. |
| Since then, Lumenelle
has become the "first contact" for many. |
